Pershing County Nevada

Pershing County  is located in Nevada with a population of only 6,668. In Pershing County, most residents own their homes and tend to be conservative. The public schools in Pershing County are above average so its a great place to raise a family. Pershing County was carved out of Humboldt County’s southern region after arguments over public funds necessitated a division of the territory. The state legislature created Nevada’s seventeenth county in 1919 and designated Lovelock as the county seat. The county was named after General John J. “Blackjack” Pershing.
Lovelock It is the namesake of a nearby medium-security men’s prison and a Cold War-era gunnery range. Formerly a stop for settlers on their way to California and later a train depot, the town’s economy remains based on farming, mining and increasingly on tourism.

Elevations range from 3,900 to 5,931 feet on top of Elephant Mountain. The Wilderness is essentially flat with the only topography occurring at Elephant and Pinto Mountains on the western edge of the area. During years of heavy snowpack the Quinn river flows through the area. The Wilderness also contains important paleological resources along the old lakeshore.
